“It is resilient who outshines the smart one.”

This sentence is well-known but less understood. This perfectly fits my journey of jumping the ladder in Korean Corporate culture and one of the pivot role steps was provided by the U-Link UST program.

I graduated in March of 2022, I bagged a handful of research skills during my master’s degree and even got them backed up by well-reputed international publications. Unfortunately, the one pre-requisite for entering the Korean Industrial sector “fluency in the Korean language” was missing. I started with the toddler steps and just after graduation, I ended up getting shortlisted for the startup company but got hit by unexpected visa issues which resulted in taking the offer off the table Thanks to “Fast-Track Naturalization of UST graduates” I ended up with an F-2 -7s visa and started working. It was in September 2023, when the U-Link program updated me with this intriguing opportunity which had an excellent resemblance with my experience and intrinsic aptitude. After the step-to-step helping hand of the UST U-LINK team, I was fortunate to become a part of Chunbo Chemicals. It ended up with me jumping from a startup to a medium-level company which is making progress my lips and bounds in the field of batteries.

Life is 80% perseverance and 20% luck!

Hi, this is Riky, one of UST alumni graduated in February 2020.

Enrolling in UST allowed me to experience working in a top notch national research facilities equipped with modern and latest technologies. It also opened up tons of opportunities such as participating in a national conference worldwide. The support provided by UST team to us UST-ians from curriculum, library, language school, student activities to cultural trip is second to none. Couldn’t highly recommend it more!

The most fascinating part is that, the support doesn’t end upon graduation, as there is this program called U-Link that serves as a connection bridge between Korean company and UST graduates who wish to look for an employment in South Korea. I came across a job opportunity sent by U-Link to my personal mail and decided to participate without any expectations. The whole process is quite straight forward and hassle free (just prepared all the required documents). After few rounds of interview, I was lucky enough to be accepted at my current company at LG Energy Solution as a Global Utility Engineer. The support doesn’t end there, as they will monitor the whole process until your very first day of work. I did encounter some problems during my visa issuance process, and U-Link helps tremendously to solve all of my worrisome during that period. All I can say is, please don’t hesitate to participate in this program for those who are seeking an employment in South Korea. I bet there’ll be no better service provided out there as much as U-Link. The only tips I can give is, just be yourself and do practice the language as it will help tremendously. To other UST-ians, I wish you the very best of luck :)
